MuhMur Radio Broadcast 10 December 2020.

This is the final broadcast of 2020. The final pre-record anyway ... there will be the annual live "four hour festive feast of fun" show broadcast on December 29 but more information about that later ...

Tonights programme starts with a track from the Aidan Baker With The Plurals album "Glass Crocodile Medicine". Back in 2011 Aidan Baker and The Plurals toured the UK (along with Baker side project Nadja) and went in to Southern Studios in London to record two live improvisations. "Glass Crocodile Medicine" was released by Latitudes a subsidiary of Southern Records.

Back in 2006 I (as part of Dieter Müh) played th Wave Gothik-Treffen Festival in Leipzig. We played a venue called Der Anker alongside Novy Svet, Apoptose, Land:Fire & Propergol. I was in Leipzig for four days and I saw this as an opportunity to see as many live bands as possible and blow the performance fee and airfare on vinyl. One of the live acts I wanted to see was Tho-So-Aa, the solo ambient/Experimental project of German sound artist Lutz Rach.

The performance took place in a cellar beneath an Absinthe Bar. The bar was in an old courtyard not far from the main train station, and I managed to catch a live set by Shava Sadhana before trying to find the Tho-So-Aa gig. Unfortunately the gig was not signposted and the space beneath the bar was like a labyrinth or Escher's 'House Of Stairs', so I retreated back to the Absinthe Bar and admitted defeat. "Sleep" is from the debut Tho-So-As album "Enrielle". A few months later I managed to get a copy of the CD album "Salon Decadance" released by the Neo-Form label that featured all the acts that played the Absinthe Bar during the 2006 WGT Festival. The CD features Shava Sadhana, Sagittarius, Echo West and Tho-So-Aa. So it wasn't all just an illusion. "Just An Illusion" is the 1990 album released by Soviet France and has just been re-issued by Vinyl On Demand. "Ascend A Fall" and "Caught In The Square" are from this album. Originally a CD presented in a cigar box VOD have put it out as a double album and is part of the ten album box set "Chȃsse 2".

The Yoni Silver And Paul Watson piece comes from the new cassette "Beartown Live Wreckage #1 (2014 & 2020)". It's an improvisational piece recorded live at 5 Miles, a brewery and night club in Seven Sisters, London. The cassette is a split release with Daniel Spicer and available via Beartown Records here : https://beartownrecords.bigcartel.com Beartown Records have just put out tapes by Creep Of Paris, Phil Maguire and John Butcher. Great stocking fillers! Ian Murphy is part of the avant-noise project Hobo Sonn and has just released a split / collaborative album with ex Plural Duncan Harrison. The album is called "Slow Lightning" and is available here : https://www.shamrepro.com If MuhMur radio did a list of best releases of 2020 then I think this LP would be sitting near the top.

Great artwork / photography too by Eddie Nuttall of Aqua Dentata fame. The album featuring in the " On This Day" is "20 Jazz Funk Greats" by Throbbing Gristle. Released on December 10 in 1979, this was TG's third vinyl album. As a rule I don't like playing the same record twice and was surprised to find that after eight and a bit years of producing MuhMur Radio I have never played the 'album version' of "Persuasion".  "Tanith" was the name of Gen + Cosey's dog at the time. (a German Shepherd).

The CD "Cinque Studi Sui Paesaggio" by Alessandro Ragazzo came through the post last month. I am afraid I know nothing of this artist, I don't know if this is a debut release or with or not Alessandro is part of some group. Putting the name in the search engine seems to bring up a New York based pop singer. Anyway, it's a great CD on the Dissipatio label (again, searches pull blanks).

One of the finest albums of 2019 was "V" by Conjecture. Released by the Bulgarian Amek label it was a follow up to the 2017 release "My Body, Your Temple". Conjecture is the solo project of visual and sound artists Vasilis Angelopoulos, he created Conjecture to discover parallels between sound, the body and religion. It's a sound I really like, to me it has the same texture and feel as late 1980's Clock DVA. The track played here is from the new C20 cassette release "⨛V". Available here ... for only €6. https://amekcollective.bandcamp.com/album/v-2

A single that should have ben featured in the last broadcast because it was released "On This Day' back in 1980 was the "Don't Try To Cure Yourself" EP by They Must Be Russians. They Must Be Russians were formed in Sheffield in 1979 by Paul Widger (later of Clock DVA and The Box) and Russel Davies. After numerous line-up changes they split in 1986. "Air To Breathe" is from this EP.

Many thanks to Chris Booth for facilitating and engineering this broadcast, like I mentioned this was the last 2 hour (pre-record) broadcast of 2020, but there will be a 240 minute festive extravaganza broadcast live on December 29th kicking off at 18:00 GMT. Over the past eight years this has now become a ritual event ... to listen to a mans descent into alcoholism with some choice sounds! Details will be given on the MuhMur Radio Facebook page in the coming days. ...
