'Vegan Headfuck' is the latest offering from Kyiv based sound artist Edward Sol. A C40 cassette on his own Quasi Pop Records. The sounds on the album were recorded in 2015 for live performances and installation work, and now they have been heavily manipulated, re-worked and decomposed for release. I have been following the work of Andrea Borghi for a few years since first hearing his sounds as part of VipCranco. Cipher Productions released a superb VipCranco / Andrea Borghi cassette back in 2013. His recent explorations has Andrea working with VHS tapes and recorders. Mechanical sounds of cut-up tape samples and the intricate parts of the machine. The 2018 album 'VHS' was the beginning of this path. The cassette 'VCR' followed in 2020, and now there's the 12"EP 'Palsecam' on Aposiopèse. For more information go to : https://label-aposiopese.bandcamp.com. 

I had a nice package through from Petter Ottosson of Fang Bomb last month. Included in the package was the latest CD album by Paul Baran called 'Pan Global Riot'. Paul is one half of the project The Cray Twins. 'Pan Global Riot' is his third album for Fang Bomb. I Am A Vowel is the project of French artist

Nelly Larguier. Originally from Paris, Nelly is now based in London. 'Body Curves' is the title track from the 7"EP released in 2011. Contact Fang Bomb at : https://fangbomb.bandcamp.com. I first heard the name Beam Weapons in 2021 when the 7" Lathe Cut single 'Beam Weapons III' came out the South Yorkshire based label Do It Thissen Records. I keep an eye and ear out for releases on Do It Thissen since they put out singles by Stunt Kites and Mzylkypop in 2018/2019. As far as I can deduce, Beam Weapons are a three piece from Doncaster (South Yorkshire). The two tracks here are from the cassette 'Old Powers' that came out last month on the Preston Capes Tapes label. "'Old Powers' is Beam Weapons' second album, and is rooted in two things. The first is a Boosey And Hawkes library record from 1970 which has the most incredible titles, but is represented by not particularly interesting music. We took some of the titles and decided to create our own versions. 

Secondly, it builds upon our mission to make as little music as possible instead concentrating on creaks, clicks, buzzes, bangs, beeps and, most importantly, atonal hums. We are not always successful in this and at times bits of melody creep in. For that we can only apologise".

Speaking of titles ... I play the track 'It's Nothing Personal' which was a title of a track by <<A:A:K>> back in 1985. <<A:A:K>> was a solo project I created whilst being part of the duo Ideas Beyond Filth. I think I put out about 3 or 4 cassettes on the Carnifex Recordings label between 1985 and 1987. In 1985 Ideas Beyond Filth released the cassette "HU'as'H", again, on Carnifex Recordings. Peter Zincken (Odal) heard the tape and wanted to re-release it on his BloedvlagProdukt label but he was unhappy with a couple of the more less experimental pieces so we re-compiled "HU'asH" and re-recorded 'It's Nothing Personal' and re-titled the piece 'Baby'. We also re-titled the album "Schranken". (I see now that Schranken is German for Level Crossing and/or Barrier. I have no recollection why we chose this title). 

Peter also included Ideas Beyond Filth on his BloedvlagProdukt compilation cassette 'New-Ärt' in 1986. This tape also features Haters, Arvid Tuba, Nails Øv Christ and Odal amongst others (it's a great tape). Also in 1986 the 2xC90 compilation "Wolfsangel" released on Peter's Nihilistic Recordings label. This compilation also features Ward Phillips, Kappotte Muziek, Le Syndicat, Irritant, Ferial Confine and De Fabriek amongst others (it's a great compilation). Both of these compilation pop up now and then on Discogs. In 2008 Harbinger Sound released a collection of Ideas Beyond Filth recordings on the eponymous 12"EP which features a live recording of 'Baby', again, re-titled as 'I Want To Give You A Baby' - a line from the original version of 'It's Nothing Personal'. 

The Non Toxique Lost track is a live version of "HIA" recorded at NL Centrum in Amsterdam. 

'Låt Hatets Evangelium Råda' (Let The Gospel Of Hate Prevail) is a 2013 compilation cassette on the Norwegian Acte Fleshgod label. The Arkhe and Trepaneringsritualen tracks are from this cassette. The compilation also features Unrest and Bizarre Uproar. I am playing a lot of Arkhe back here at MuhMur Radio HQ and dug this gem out for a listen. Arkhe is Andreas Johansson from Malmö (Sweden). Regional Bears have just released a new LP by American sound artist Christian Mirande. Christian has, in the past, released on Hanson Records, Glistening Examples, Vitrine and No Rent Records. 'Beautiful One Day, Perfect The Next' is an album of two halves, with short experimental / Musique Concret / Field Recordings on side one and a fifteen minute diary exploration on side two. Here I play side two. Regional Bears are from Stockport (UK) and worth keeping an ear out for with great releases from the likes of Duncan Harrison, Heinz Hopf, Blackhumour and Modelbau in the past. One thing you may have noticed (so far) about this broadcast is that there is no regular 'On This Day' feature or any cover version(s). My diaries show little activity for this date, so in absence of an old tune or cover I dug out the Storm Bugs 'Metamorphose' 10" single from 1981. Just to play something 40 odd years old ... The single features two great tracks 'Car Situations' and 'Tin'. I have played 'Car Situations' a few times over the past 11 years, so it's time for 'Tin'. I've always thought the single has an inappropriate cover for the sounds contained therein, but I guess it was the 1980's.

L'Invitation Au Suicide was a short lived label operated by Yann Farcy in Le Havre, France. He released the likes of Virgin Prunes, Christian Death and Citizen UK in the mid 1980's then set up the Noise Museum label in the 1990's putting out sounds by Vance Orchestra, Telepherique, Deutsch Nepal and Radboud Mens amongst others.

In March this year Mattias Gustafsson (Altar Of Flies, Cryme) released the double cassette "Seven Movements". Three hours of home recordings, field recordings and tape manipulations. At times it sinks into self-indulgence but not enough to make it a very desirable release and insight in to the workings of Mattias. "Seven Movements" is on Hästen & Korsett and limited to 30 copies, although I think there was a second edition of 10. (Unconfirmed)! Last month Mattias followed "Seven Movements' with an accompanying cassette called "Nedbrytningen". This time an hour of electroacoustic examinations. 

'Nedbrytningen' (The Breakdown) is agin on Mattias' house label Hästen & Korsett and limited to 45 copies. Plymouth (UK) based label Grumpy's Third Eye Lives have released a double cassette compilation of sounds by Fordell Research Unit. Limited to only 22 copies the release is a 2xC80 collection of sounds pulled from the FRU Bandcamp page. Grumpy's Third Eye Lives is a label run by Tom Newell. Tom has virtually no internet presence preferring to sell through Discogs. He has (in the past) also operated the labels Cosmic Slumber and Thee Intergalaktik Beard releasing sounds from Nackt Insecten, Textured Bird Transmission and Culver amongst others. The programme ends with a 20 minute sonic collage by Veryan. 'Above Colonsay' is from the split CD with The Lonely Bell. I know very little about the Veryan project, very little is written but what I can gather from the internet is that it is a project based in Scotland (like The Lonely Bell) and releases can be found on Cue Dot Records, Mortality Tables and Bibliotapes. Ars Sonitus (The Art Of Sound) is the project of Artur R. Sztukalski, a Polish soundartist now based in France. The Polish label Impulsy Stetoskopu has released the CD "Transfuturism Manifesto", an album packaged in a black box with the CD wrapped in a flag with the written manifesto. 

Information on Artur and his Ars Sonitus project is very hard to find ... most information is written in Polish. He has been creating 'industrial music' since 1985 and self released a cassette in 1992. The cassette was limited to 6 copies. Impulsy Stetoskopu is a label operated by Rafael Kochan. It's a label I first became aware of in 2010 when he began the 'Encyclopedia Of Industrial Music', an ambitious project of books writing about Industrial and Noise artists throughout the age. Each book came with a CD. (Volume 2 featured a Dieter Müh track). Unfortunately there are only 3 volumes in print. It has now transferred to being internet / downloadable only : https://encyklopediamuzykiindustrialnejpl.wordpress.com. It is all in Polish. The Ars Sonitus album is limited to 100 copies, it is excellent and recommended and available by contacting Rafal at impulsystetoskopu@yahoo.com. Impulsy Stetoskopu also have an impressive catalogue with releases by Deviation Social, Brume, Entre Vifs and Murderous Visions to name but a few (well, the ones I have). 

At the moment I am (slowly) reading 'Total State Machine' by Richard Cabut. It's a massive tome about the foundation and activity of Test Dept. "Compulsion" was their first 12" and features Cabaret Voltaire as remixers / producers. Copies can be found floating around the internet at a reasonable price. 

Vertonen is the project of Blake Edwards. The two tracks here are from his latest release on the excellent Helen Scarsdale Agency label called "Einige Schadstoffe". (From The Helen Scarsdale Agency website) : "In 'Einige Schadstoffe', we have quite a potent homage to the classic era of industrial noise. Think Throbbing Gristle's 'Second Annual Report', Come's 'I'm Jack', MB's 'Symphony For A Genocide', and even Nord's 'Ego Trip'. The sentiment linking all of these records is a clinical detachment in the production and broadcast of scalding tone, sickly rhythm, and unclean readymades, emerging through the spectacle of the human conditions of alienation, paranoia, and cruelty. Ultimately, such works are intended as critiques by way of gonzo journalism, where the intent is not always what it seems.  ... Vertonen, the longstanding project of veteran Chicago avant-noise technician Blake Edwards, masterfully recapitulates these strategies and affects, both aesthetically and materially. On 'Einige Schadstoffe' Edwards transmits feverish arppegiations cascading through nervous distortion followed by plodding rhythms and dead-tonal electronics that gird case studies on living monstrosities. There is also a rather clever, if oblique and almost Oulipian framework to the album. Plenty of breadcrumbs have been laid as to the nature of Edwards' puzzle, and we have already said too much about that". The cassette also has thanks to 'Mr Clean And Wilkins, The Tone Generator And Operator, Were (Are) Always In The Mind'. As if it needs mentioning, this was the line up for S.P.K. who released "Information Overload Unit" in 1981. "Einige Schadstoffe" is a great album and did get me thinking of Throbbing Gristle so I played "Greasy Spoon" from the 2007 album "Part Two ~ The Endless Not". 'On This Day' in 1982 The Three Johns released their first 7" single "English White Boy Engineer" on the Leeds based CNT Productions label. The Three Johns were created by Jon Langford when he left being drummer for The Mekons (and part time Sister Of Mercy) joining forces with John Brennan and John Hyatt. (hence the name). I don't have a copy of the 7" anymore, but play the version from the 1983 12"EP "Some History" which contains their first two singles. 

Playing the Vertonen cassette led me to spinning more Vertonen here at MuhMur Radio HQ. I dug out the 1994 7" 'Strip Mining' on Crippled Intellect Productions. "Camche" is the B-Side. The Modelbau 7" 'Metal & Motif' is selling well, although copies are still available direct from me. Please get in touch if you want a copy.  (From the Helen Scarsdale Agency website) : "Head to the western neighbourhoods of San Francisco and the city becomes a very quiet place after midnight. By 3am, one can almost hear the fog spilling past the sodium lights that illuminate a lonesome street corner at Judah and 15th. Whatever soundtracks that emerge from that time and that place inevitably embody that nocturnal atmosphere, a narcoleptic weariness, a waking dream of the insomniac. Such is the psychogeographical realm as channeled through sound for Hauras, the obliquely musical concern of San Franciscan Howard Ryan.  ... In 'Pervades', Hauras returns to the fragments of guitar warbling through chains of echo and flange, his Basinski-esque loops of crushingly sad ambient melody, his EVP impressionistic vocals and his curious interruptions from scanner radio. More than before he expresses a confidence in his oblique craftsmanship that allows him to push the sounds to include a very compelling drum machine plus guitar noise track in 'Stellaged'. Richard Youngs, Gate and Graham Lambkin all come to mind, as does the terminally obscure project Dial (Jaqui Ham's post-Ut band of similarly late night expressionism). ... 'Pervades' concludes a trilogy of recordings made during the pandemic era that also includes 'In These Coming Days (2020) and 'The Glare Of The Nave' (2021). Whilst compiling the playlist for tonights broadcast I heard about the passing of Mark Stewart. I play two of his releases in tribute and memorance. Firstly the 12" 'This Is Stranger Than Love' which was released in 1987 and features lyrics pulled from The Pop Group's 'We Are Time' from their first LP "Y".

I noticed that Virgin Prunes had re-issued their first two 7" singles as a double pack 10"EP for this years Record Store Day. I don't usually bother myself with RSD releases but my copy of '20 Tens' is getting to sound a bit like a breakfast cereal (snap, crackle & pop) so this release seemed like a good idea. All tracks have been remastered and include a little lyric sheet. Ridiculously expensive and totally necessary. I am still listening to Manicured Noise a lot, the compilation album 'Northern Stories 1978/80' includes the Radio One "Kid" Jensen session from 1980 (recorded in 1979) which was co-produced by Manicured Noise and Mark Stewart. 'Metronome' was the debut single.

This broadcasts cover version comes courtesy of Staa Marx. Stay Marx were from Bognor Regis and apart from the band Strike they are the only band I know from Bognor Regis. Staa Marx's guitarist Pete Macer played in both bands. They only recorded this single before splitting. Great band, great single. There is film of Staa Marx live in Chichester 1977 playing in the "Melody Maker Rock Contest", which they went on to win ... perhaps the first prize was a deal with Cherry Red Records? Regular listeners to MuhMur Radio will know I am a big 'fan' of Column One. I was very surprised when I heard about their new release 'Mädchen Im Schmutzigen Schürzen'. (Girls In Dirty Aprons) on the Hamburg based label Fragment Factory. I was surprised as I thought Column One had ceased to exist and the album is compiled from sounds recorded between 2010 and 2021. The sounds were used as a soundtrack for the Kärma Burg film 'Der Versuche Des Naum Kotik' (The Experiments Of Naum Kotik). The release is of the Column One soundtrack on CD and the Kärma Burg film on Blu-Ray Disc. The Sunday Post

 Prayers Answered. I woke up this morning to the sound of someone knocking on the door ... 9 a.m. on a Sunday! I was going to ignore the phantom knocker, luckily I didn't as it was the postman. The postman on a Sunday. Never before have I known the post being delivered on a Sunday (probably once or twice when Christmas Day was a Monday, and those cards needed to be delivered but I couldn't swear on that). 

What the postman delivered was the LP "Aylesbury Goes Flaccid". Flaccid Records 1978. It's a beauty, it's a classic. File under New Wave / Pub Rock / Power Pop. It has a track from the mighty Vice Creems who I think are the trio on the back cover. (Please correct me if I'm wrong). 

The album also has a track by Anal Surgeons. Anal Surgeons also have a track on the great "Back To Sing Again For Free ... Soon" compilation cassette on Fuck Off Records (1979). Their track here is the great 'Wide Boy'. The album also has great tracks by The Robins, Peter Out & The Faders, The Speedos, The Man Ezeke and Abbott. Not too sure about Clumsy, Smiffy and Robert & The Remoulds but the LP is a great listen. I have no affiliation to Aylesbury, back in September 1979 I did spend a few days there staying with an old school friend. The main reason was to see Gary Numan on his 'The Touring Principle' tour at Aylesbury Friars (supported by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark), we spent evenings in The Green Man the local haunt for punks at the time. The Green Man had a jukebox chart that featured in the 'ZigZag' magazine. Kris Needs of 'ZigZag' was also in Vice Creems. Mick Sinclair (a member of Vice Creems and Anal Surgeons) also wrote for ZigZag. 

I do like a compilation album and I do like a 'site specific' compilation album. "East" is a great collection of Lincoln bands from the late 1970's with The Cigarettes, Half Life, Whizz Kids and Pseudo Editors amongst others. Then there's 'Household Shocks' concentrating on North Lincolnshire groups. "Where The Hell Is Leicester", "A Manchester Collection", "Unzipping The Abstract" (Manchester), "Bouquet Of Steel" (Sheffield and surround), "Is The War Over?" (Cardiff), "Avon Calling" (Bristol), "Vaultage '78" (Brighton), "Street To Street" (Liverpool), "Logical Steps" (Doncaster and surround). I am certain there's more but these are the ones that come to me off the top of my head. 

Expect to hear one or two tracks from "Aylesbury Goes Flaccid" in the coming months on MuhMur Radio.

 The programme begins with 'Theme From The Film The Hawkline Monster' by C Cat Trance. Originally released on the 2005 CD 'Karadara - The Cream Of C Cat Trance' (Cherry Red Records), it also appears as a bonus piece on the 2023 re-issue of the 1987 album 'C Cat Trance Play Masenko Combo' on Klanggalerie. http://www.klanggalerie.com/gg403. Whether or not this is the theme to the film 'The Hawkline Monster' I do not know. In 2002 St Etienne released an album called 'Asleep At The Wheels Of Steel' which contained an 'imaginary' soundtrack for 'The Hawkline Monster'. 

Rainier Lericolais was born in Chȃteauroux, France in 1970. Now Rainier is based in Paris, a multi disciplinary artist and musician working in a variety of media including film, painting, fanzines and installation. I first became aware of the works of Rainier in 2014 when he appeared on the Thorsten Soltau x Comrades double cassette album 'Roamn Feast & A Grape From Thor Heyerdahl's Table' on the great GerauschManufaktur label. He has also collaborated with Grauzone and Susan Matthews in the past. 'Unantastbar' is from the 7" single 'Intagible' on Sordide Sentimentale, and features Grauzone's Stephan Eicher. 

O Yuki Conjugate follow up 2021's 'A Tension Of Opposites' with 'A Tension Of Opposites Volumes 3 & 4' on their own OYC Limited label. As with the first two volumes each member of OYC (Andrew Hulme and Roger Horberry) present their own side of music (I have the cassette edition). Levensleed (the Dutch for Life Suffering) is a collaboration between Frans de Waard  (as Modelbau) and South African artist Ellende. Last year they collaborated for the album 'Dweemoed' released by the South African label Smeerlappen. Dweemoed is the Dutch for Melancholy. The album was a CDR release limited to 35 copies. It is great to have a new release by Arkhe. 'Taurokhton' is the follow up to 2018's 'Elivågor' cassette on Kafé Kaos. Arkhe is the solo project of Swedish musician Andreas Johansson. Between 2008 and 2011 Andreas released as Pestdemon and alongside Peter Henning (AmPh) released sounds as Backasvinet. I first heard Violent Onsen Geisha in the early 1990's, appearances on various compilations and the like... And I did like, so the re-issue of the 'Wagamama Na Ofukuro' LP on Urashima felt like a no brainer. Originally released in 1993 on VOG's own label My Fiance's Lifework Productions as a C46 cassette. "On This Day" in 1980, Industrial Records released the 7" 'Meat Processing Section' by S.P.K. (Surgical Penis Klinik at the time). Featuring the tracks 'Slogun' and 'Mekano' (wrongly titled 'Factory' on the label). These two tracks with 'Contact' were originally released a year earlier on S.P.K.'s own Side Effects label. 

This single is in my all time top 5, it never fails to stimulate and entertain ... and bring back memories of the Industrial Age. 'Cultrucide' is from the 12"EP 'Dekompositiones'. In 1983 S.P.K. were known as SepPuKu. 

As I mention on the programme, all broadcasts are pre-recorded. It's been this way for nearly three years now. I usually pre-record two programmes in one session on a Saturday morning. This programme was pre-recorded on May 6 ... a very rainy day here in the UK and also Coronation Day. So I thought I would play three songs with no relevance to the day whatsoever, but made me smile. Firstly Blood Axis with 'Reign I Forever'. This is from the album 'Blót:Sacrifice In Sweden'. Secondly is 'Cutting Crowns - II' by Leif Elggren. It's the B-Side of the 7" 'Cutting Crowns' on Meeuw Muzak. 

The broadcast ends with 'Charles' by Skids. Like I mentioned, absolutely nothing to do with the coronation but .... The latest album by Takahiro Mukai is 'Vigilance' on the Bulgarian Mahorka label. I have been listening to Takahiro since coming across the 2019 cassette 'Paraponera Clavata' on Cruel Nature Records. A tape I bought because I liked the artwork (I do this now and again). Mukai is quite prolific releasing four / five albums a year. I have yet to hear a 'bad' one. Mahorka is operated by Ivo Petrov and the cassette is available here : https://mahorka.bandcamp.com. 'On This Day' in 1981 Anthony More released the 7" single 'World Service'. Confusingly Anthony More released two 7" singles called 'World Service'. This 7" was the first version followed in 1982 with a version that appeared on the LP 'World Service'. 

Anthony More began making music in the early 1970's and was a founder member of Slapp Happy with Dagmar Krause and Peter Blegvad before changing into Henry Cow (in 1973) joining with Chris Cutler and Fred Frith. In 1979 Anthony released the seminal album "Flying Doesn't Help" on the Quango label. Anthony has also collaborated with Albertos Y Los Trios Paranioias, Mannfred Mann's Earthband, The Damned and Pink Floyd over a long career. He is still releasing, last year he put out a CD on Touch called 'CSound + Saz'. The musicians helping out on 'World Service' include Charley Charles and Norman Watt-Roy from The Blockheads. I always like to include a cover version in each programme. Thursdays version of the Otis Redding classic '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay' is from the 12"EP 'Earcom 2'. 

The latest cassette from Semănat is a split with Oorchach called 'Ignis Fatuus'. I know little about each project, although I do have a split tape featuring Oorchach and Pogrom on the Lithuanian Terror label. This cassette is on the Lithuanian Apport! label and is (probably) a follow up to a 2017 self released (split) cassette. https://apport.bandcamp.com for copies and more information. Luke & Wendy are Albert Oehien and Luke Calzonetti. Albert also plays in Red Krayola and sometimes records under the name of Wendy Gondein. Killerlady is Martin Kircher. Based in Munchengladbach, Germany. Martin has been producing sounds since the mid 1980's playing bass with the punk group Ranola. He began the Killer / Killerlady project in the late 1990's. "Die Heimat Wird Streben" is the latest 7" on the Beau Travail label. The programme starts with "Seestück", the B-Side. Kazuya Ishigami ended 2022 with the release of the cassette "Unrealistic Memory" on the French Falt label. Falt is operated by Christian Schiefner who puts out his own sounds under the banner of Chemiefaserwerk. February saw the release of the new album by The Dead Mauriacs (firm favourites here on MuhMur Radio). Entitled "Paravents Et Mirrors, Une Cérémonie" It is a live recording. 

'"Paravents Et Miroirs, Une Cérémonie" corresponds to the first concert performed alone on stage. I was invited through Thorsten Soltau to play at the HausKlangFestival in Hamburg in 2017. The hall where the festival is held is also an art cinema. So it was an opportunity to present a show combining film and music. It also solves the problem of a musician alone on stage behind a computer. Although the music was not especially thought for these images, the spectator himself makes relations, concordances are born between musical and visual ruptures and each one makes his own story .... I met Thorsten via the internet. We only saw each other once in Hamburg. He is a friend, we correspond regularly, we exchange sounds, we collaborate sometimes. I did one or two remixes for him. The festival took place during two days. The program included Enema Syringe, Air Cushion Finish, Ansgar Wilken, Thorsten Soltau under the pseudonym of Marina Stewart, Soviet-France and me!' (Olivier Prieur~from the sleeve notes). Here I play the whole of side A, it is split into seven sections :

As strange as the story goes, I was also asked by Thorsten to play this festival in 2017 but I could not make the flight. It would have meant flying out to Hamburg on Boxing Day (Dec 26), so it was not possible. Regrets ... I've had a few.

The programme's obligatory cover version comes from The Human League and their take on Mick Ronson's "Only After Dark". The original appeared on the "Slaughter On 10th Avenue" LP released in 1974 (on RCA Victor), The Human League's version is from their 1980 "Travelogue" album on Virgin Records. To accompany the album "Starballs" (released by Chocolate Monk), Neil Campbell aka Astral Social Club has self-released the album "Occultics". Available through his Bandcamp page for a tenner!

'On This Day' in 1982 Modern English released the single "Life In The Gladhouse" on 4AD Records. It was available only as a 12". The single was a remix from the album "After The Snow", the version I play here is the album version ... the 12" has always evaded me as have Modern English. I had the opportunity to see them live on a couple of occasions but they were support to New Order and Japan so I gave them a miss. I love the 4AD singles from 1980 to 1983. 

Speaking of singles I love .... I was in Bristol a couple of months ago and bought a pile of 7" singles from the variety of (excellent) second hand record shops that are situated in the City. Manicured Noise "Faith" was in the pile, mainly for the B-Side "Freetime". Manicured Noise were formed in 1978 in Manchester and fell apart in 1980 (or 1981 ... I'm uncertain). They centred around singer / songwriter / guitarist Steve Walsh. Steve was a member of Flowers Of Romance and formed the soul / funk outfit The Weathermen after the demise of Manicured Noise. Death In June's "Holy Water" is the B-Side of the their 1982 single "State Laughter".

Joe Colley is an artist / composer based in Sacramento (California). He began recording as Crawl Unit and releasing on his own Povertech Industries label in the mid 1990's. Since the turn of the century he seems to be recording / releasing under his own name. "Limit" is from his latest release, a 10"EP  "Acting As If" on the Drone Records subsidiary Substantia Innominata. 

"In describing 'Acting As If', Colley offers a vague series of descriptors: unheimlich, terror of the familiar, and no faith in what is not "real". Within the sustained movements of scrabbling textures, motorised abrasions, and uncomfortable harmonics, such conditions are made manifest and Colley amplifies them into something eerily sublime.

All of that held within a self-contained logic that works within and against a deep knowledge of drone-on minimalism, mystique concrete dynamics, and the explosiveness of noise culture. His swarming masses, throttled rumbling and smouldering tension are all encircling and folding in on themselves. Rhizomes of sound that speak poison, Drink up if it doesn't kill you it will only make you stronger".  (Jim Haynes). Another new release from the MuhMur Radio 'house-label' Haemoccult Recordings. Modelbau and the EP "Metal & Motif". 'Three imaginary soundtracks from the dystopian nightmare at the cineplex. Reel-to-Reel cacophonies, made to measure the format of a 7"' (Frans de Waard).

"Film Theme" by Simple Minds is from their 1979 album "Real-To-Real Cacophony" on Zoom Records, although the version I play here is from the 2003 remastered CD on Virgin Records. "Warm Leatherette" is a classic .... and also mine & Mrs MuhMur's wedding song back in 2003. I am still spinning 'The Elephant Table' compilation double LP from 1983. Portion Control's "Chew You To Bits" (which incorporates their 'Crash Weight Gain' song) and Chris & Cosey's "Raining Tears Of Blood" are from this release. A different version of "Raining Tears Of Blood" was released on their 1984 album "Songs Of Love & Lust" (on Rough Trade Records). 

The Prestidigitators were created in 1995 by Micheal Gillham. A rotating set of musicians and misfits that have included Dave Walklett (Smell & Quim), Kevin Short (Drunk In Hell) and Michael Baines + Ian Roberts (Snotnosed). "Nights Jenseits Nihilismus (II)" also features Thomas LaRoche and Zoë Valls (Dead Normal). Michael Gillham is also involved with The New Blockaders, it was many years ago that I met Michael whilst he was performing with TNB and we have remained friends ever since. It was Michael that invited me to be part of Vagina Dentata Organ in 2012. Michael was the 'master of ceremonies' at VDO performances. Whilst compiling tonight's programme I received the news of Michael being hospitalised after an attack on the streets of Middlesborough. He is (at time of writing) on the mend. Another compadre and fellow Blockader is Phil Julian of Cheapmachines. The track here is from the "Viva Negativa!" 8xLP Box Set on Vinyl On Demand*. A tribute to The New Blockaders. 

The programme finishes with the Normil Hawaiians and their version of "Heaven" from the 'Eraserhead' soundtrack. This is from their debut single "The Beat Goes On* on Dining Out Records. The Normil Hawaiians are formed in 1979 and active until the mid 1980's releasing on labels such as Dining Out, Red Rhino Records and Illuminated Records. The programme begins with a track by K Of Arc from their "Show Them Your Throat" cassette, released by Cruel Nature Records in 2022. And that is all I know. I have no more information on K Of Arc. The album is called "Free Time / Dead Time" and available at : https://brachliegentapes.bandcamp.com/album/free-time-dead-time. Left Hand Cuts Off The Right is the project of Robbie Judkins. 

"Blue Sky" is the B-Side to the 1997 single "Some People Never Got The Chance" released on the Japanese Kubitsuri Tapes label. It has been seven years since the seminal Con-Dom album "How Welcome Is Death To I Who Have Nothing More To Do But Die". I have supported Mike Dando (Mr. Con-Dom) on many occasions in UK and Germany. In February the Athens based label Modal Analysis released a double album of Het Zweet recordings (studio and live). Het Zweet was the project of Marien Van Oers from Breda, Holland. Active throughout the 1980's Marien also collaborated with Simon Crab of Bourbonese Qualk and Eric Hammers of Forced Run. The collaborations with both these artists are on the LP. https://modalanalysis.bandcamp.com/album/het-zweet-archives-vol-i-82-88. Sadly Marien passed away in 2013.

Another Recloose Organisation / Bourbonese Qualk released project is / was Muslimgauze. "Soviet Occupied Territories" is from the LP "Buddhist On Fire". Both Het Zweet and Muslimgauze feature on the Recloose Organisation compilation LP "Songs From The New International" (1986). The album also has a track from my old project <<I.B.F>>. Copies can be found floating around on the internet. 

The new cassette by Swedish project Leda comes incased in lace. Entitled "Music For A Film", it is released by the German label Kashual Plastic. "In March of 2020, early pandemic, Tom asked me 'Wanna do a quick and dirty internet collaboration.?' He had recently posted an extended track called 'Strip Ice Water To Listerine', and added 'It's only six days old. A simple generative system. Why don't we rework it together? Tear it apart, add your bits, then I can sprinkle some magic dust atop the rubble'. I said I'd see what I can do, but was in the middle of a big project, The Prevalence, and was not in the frame of mind to take on anything else at the time. Fast forward to January 2022, after receiving the sad news that Tom had died, I decided to go ahead with the project. By then I had developed new processes and the motivation to record four new albums over the next few months, one of which was a reworking of 'Strip Ice water To Listerine'. By cutting up looping and sampling Tom's original track I created a series of rhythmic backdrops for Tom's improvisations, an album's worth of material that I could not stop listening to, and this is the result. Unfortunately the rubble never got the magic dust but I think Tom would have liked it." An extract of Robert Turman's sleeve notes to the CD "Strip Ice Water To Listerine" on the Nyahh Records label. "Shoulders Are Weeping" is from this album. Great artwork by Karen Constance and liner notes by Thurston Moore. The Passengers were a Belgian punk band between 1977 and 1978, members of The Passengers formed The Names in 1979. In 2018 Les Disques Du Crépuscule released two 7" singles by The Passengers (both recorded in 1978). The Names (of course) became Factory Records stalwarts until their demise in 1982. They have (as they all do) reformed for the 21st Century.

'On This Day' in 1979 Pink Military Stand Alone released the live EP "Buddha Waking, Disney Sleeping".

Pink Military Stand Alone were a band from Liverpool formed by Jayne Casey after the fallout of Big In Japan. They existed for a handful of gigs and this one EP before shortening their name to Pink Military and releasing the excellent album "Do Animals Believe In God?" Only Jayne and keyboardist Nicky Cool remained in the Military with drummer Paul Hornby joining The Dogs D'Amour and John Higham going to The Merseysippi Jazz band. In 1981 the Military became an Industry and Pink Industry became a trio with Jayne, Ambrose Reynolds and Tadzio Jodiowski. It was around this time I saw Pink Industry live, a memorable evening at The Gallery in Manchester where Pink Industry played a striking miners benefit, only to be usurped on stage by John The Postman. Also an empty Tuesday night at The Hacienda in 1983. 'On This Day' in 1981 The Fall released the 10"EP "Slates, Slags, Etc" on Rough Trade Records. 

A few weeks ago I got a copy of the new Ubiquitous Meh! album "the Love Pseudomorph". It's a cracking album featuring the ever expanding talent of Luke Richards. The album has the track "I Identified The UFO" and that put on the UFO tip, so I dug out three other songs that feature 'U.F.O.' starting with the 1979 single "UFO" by Eddie Fiction. 

The single is on Absurd Records, a very diverse and collectable label with artists such as Blah Blah Blah, Cairo, Naafi Sandwich and Gerry & The Holograms to name but a few ... Eddie Fiction was a pseudonym for Ed Garrity, a.k.a. Ed Banger vocalist with The Nosebleeds, Slaughter & The Dogs and The Baskerville City Raiders. A Mancunian legend. "Mystery Plane" by The Cramps is from their first album "Songs The Lord Taught Us. MC 900ft Jesus & DJ Zero track is from the 1989 album "Hell With The Lid Off". Back in 1989 I found myself listening to, and going to see live, bands like Consolidated, Meat Beat Manifesto, Tackhead (band and sound system) and MC 900ft Jesus & DJ Zero. Of all this mentioned I only have MC 900ft Jesus records here at MuhMur Radio HQ, I know he kind of drifted off into a jazz/funk style and I lost interest, but I think this LP is timeless. As I was compiling tonights programme I was reading the book "Listening To The Music The Machines Make" by Richard Evans. Subtitled 'Inventing Electronic Pop 1978 - 1983'. The tome begins OK with stories how the 'inventors' of electronic pop in the late 1970's were influenced by the likes of David Bowie, Brian Eno, Sparks et al, but it soon gets really boring because all it is (really) is a collection of newspaper reviews, papers like NME, Record Mirror, Sounds, Melody Maker and Smash Hits. A collection of reviews and snippets from interviews. 

I used to get the music weeklies back in the late 1970's and one thing was obvious, the people who wrote in the rags had no idea what they were on about. Reviews on the whole were derogatory and acidic, interviews were snide. The writers would more than likely be writing under a pseudonym, so confident they were of their words. The reason to get the NME, Sounds etc was to find about tour dates, record releases, pictures and the classifieds. When we enter the invention of electronic pop the book concentrates on such great electronic bands as .. Ultravox!, Tubeway Army, Spandau Ballet, Simple Minds, Duran Duran. Not (in my opinion) electronic bands, I would use the words rock and pop, but there y'go. Richard hasn't really written this book, he has just put his name to a collection of other folks words. Alongside the newspaper clippings are extracts from autobiographies by the likes of Martin Kemp, Gary Numan and Martyn Ware. So, I was listening to Tubeway Army and Ultravox! whilst reading the book and play a couple of my favourites here ... adding a couple of my own 'electronic' bands of the era The Naughtiest Girl Was A Monitor and Doncaster's finest B. Troop. I did not finish the book. My next read .. Martyn Ware's autobiography ... 

The programme finishes on another slice of great electronic music, "Red October Black September" by Konstruktivists. Recorded in 1983 but not released until 1984 on Third Mind Records, Konstruktivists is the project of former TG 'road crew' and Heute member Glenn Wallis. Glenn was also a member of Whitehouse and NKVD. I first met Glenn back in 1998 when we appeared together at an all day electronic festival in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium and have remained friends since. I don't think there was a bar in Sint-Niklaas that we didn't visit.
