The broadcast starts with the first part of the double C40 cassette release "Hörspeile" by the 'underestimated' poet Czas Czarny Nieokréslony. "Hörspeile" is German for Radio Play. The cassette release happened in December last year and was released by GeräuschManufaktur. For the tape version, Jan Warnke (Red Cliffs / J.Adolphe) reworked the sounds from the 2016 digital release (made by Max Kuiper) and added his own sound material, as well as using material made by Kuiper in the 1980's. I do not know who is behind the project Gothenburg Sound Workshop. Last year the Gothenburg based label Förlag För Fri Musik put out their debut LP and almost sold out of its' 100 copies within hours. I assume the guys behind Förlag to be involved ... Gustaf Dicksson, Dan Johansson, Hugo Randulv, Altar Of Flies etc ... The track here is from the CDEP "Demos" released in an edition of 50 last month on the Förfall label. The last album I bought on release by Lustmord was the 1992 "This Monstrous Soul" CD on Side Effects. A few months later Brian left the UK to work with Graeme Revell in Hollywood, California. I lost track and interest in Brian's work, as well as Graeme's after buying the "Body Of Evidence Soundtrack" album. "First Reformed" is a double album, an extended soundtrack to the film of the same name starring Ethan Hawke. This album arrived as a gift for which I am very grateful as I don't think I'd ever get to hear it. The first time I heard The Manson Family sing "I'll Never Say Never To Always" was on the first album by Lustmord (simply called 'Lustmørd') released in 1981 by Sterile Records. The it was known as "The Valley Of Death". The version here is from the 1992 re-issue of the Charles Manson LP "Lie" on Awareness Records. Treasury Of Puppies are the Swedish duo Joakim Karlsson and Charlotte Maimenholt. The track here is the B-Side to their new 7" on the highly recommended I Dischi Del Barone label. Joakim also plays in the Nordic Ambient project Facit and Charlotte is involved with Monokultur. T.O.P. has a very 'Monokultur' sound to my ears. Staying with the new sound of the Swedish underground Förfall have just released 'Skram Volume II' by Blod. Blod is the solo project of Gustaf Dicksson. A few programmes back I played extracts from his vinyl LP "Tusen Bitar". Like all Förfall releases "Skram Volume II" is a CDR and limited to 60 copies. The 'On This Day' feature starts with two tracks from Rema-Rema's "Wheel In The Roses" 12"EP. It's a piece of vinyl I have never lived without since its release in April 1980. Unlike other records from this time "Wheel In The Roses" has not dated in the least, still sounding fresh and powerful 40 odd years later. Rema-Rema were a short lived project bridging The Models and Mass. The drummer Max went on to record under the name Dorothy for Industrial Records before being part of Psychic TV. Recently Rema-Rema guitarist and vocalist Gary Asquith along with Ex-Ant Kevin Mooney have been re-issuing old Rema-Rema recordings on their Le Coq Music label.
US label Anomalous Records have released a couple of great 7"s in the past few months. Bladder Flask's "I Am As I Have Spoken" earlier this year and Steve Roden's "O.T.R.And U.T.R." and the end of last year. These pieces "Over The Rainbow" and "Under The Rainbow" were originally composed for the En Red O Festival in Spain and presented as an installation for the Beyond Noise Conference in Santa Barbara August 2002. The installation consisted of a simple set-up of a CD player and two speakers set up on a table infront of a sofa. The work was looped and played quietly. Each 7" single is packaged individually and limited to 150 copies. Modelbau and the sound of Frans de Waard have been a constant on MuhMur Radio over the past eight and a half years and this programme is no different. 2021 is being a busy year for Frans with half a dozen cassette releases already, and his weekly "52" digital pieces available only through the Modelbau Bandcamp page. https://modelbau.bandcamp.com. (These pieces are 'pay what you want' .. aka FREE .. ). "Track" is from the cassette "Senderfolge". A two-track C60 release limited to 40 copies, each copy comes in a personalised box as it is also the package and has the recipients name and address on the front. It was available only for a limited time on a pre-order basis. The cassette inside the box is wrapped in orange crepe paper. Each box is a work of art! Great stuff ... "Battle Of Britain" is the B-Side to this single ... I have played "Betrayal" on an earlier broadcast and I don't really like playing the same record twice ... and credited to 'Mr. X', but that is just a Wobble alias. Also 'On This Day' in 1981"Dumb Waiters" 7" by Psychedelic Furs was released. Originally packaged with a playable sleeve, a Flexi Disc containing excerpts from the upcoming LP "Talk Talk Talk" the version I play here is the LP version. Unfortunately I don't have the 7". Back in 1981 myself and a couple of friends managed to wangle ourselves on to the guest list of the 'Northern' part of the "Talk Talk Talk" tour. Bizarre days!
It's been quite a year for books ... books about music ... a couple of great books came out last month on Frans de Waard's Korm Digital imprint. (Does this man never sleep)? 'Wondersound' by Freek Kinkelaar is an absolute unputdownable tome. Then there's "Grudge For Life" a book about Ramleh by Richard Johnson. Reading the book required Ramleh for the soundtrack and I've always liked the "Night Hair Child" 7". Copies of the book can be bought direct from Richard from here :
