MuhMur Radio Broadcast February 13 2020.
An in-between storms live broadcast.
The programme begins with side A of the new cassette album release from The Dead Mauriacs. "Éléments D'une Diplomatie Fantȏme" was released at the beginning of the month by UK label Sucata Tapes. Sucata Tapes is a 'side project' of Discrepant who released The Dead Mauriacs' LP "Beauté Des Mirages" three years ago.
The album contains the 'exotique concret' sound that The Dead Mauriacs have been developing over the years, but this album seems to contain a darker edge reminiscent of their earlier releases on the German GeräuschManufaktur label. Actually it fits in well with last years double cassette "Marvelles Et Poisons Du Jardin Mecanique" that GeräuschManufaktur released. Copies are available direct from the label : https://www.discrepant.net/labels/sucata-tapes/
A recent arrival at MuhMur HQ is the Contagious Orgasm / Use Your Pain split 10" from 1997. The joys of buying secondhand vinyl on the internet.
Cromlech Shadow began 2020 by releasing the album "Signal Is Weak And Obscured By Static" on their own Coma Kultur label. Cromlech Shadow are Dutch audio-visual artist Chandor Gloomy and Ex-Dogliveroil + Vile Plumage maker Andy Jarvis. Information about their activities can be found here : https://comakultur.bandcamp.com and here : https://chandorgloomy.wixsite.com/comakultur
German label Mannesquin Records seem to be re-releasing the catalogue of the Recloose Organisation and Sterile Records. After bringing out a 'Greatest Hits' compilation of BQ back in 2015 and their debut LP "Laughing Afternoon" last year they now have released Qualk's second LP "Hope". Hopefully Mannequin Records will be in touch when they want to re-issue the "Songs From The New Internationals" compilation album, a record from 1987 which I contributed to.
Harbinger Sound have just released the third LP by German punk band Pisse. Pisse are from Hoyerswerda. Eponymously titled "Pisse" is more complex and darker than the brace of 7" singles they released in 2018 and their last album "Kohlrübenwinter". Also out this month on Harbinger Sound is the debut LP from Barcelona based duo Mentira.
Both albums can be got from here : https://harbingersound.bigcartel.com
Sequences is the solo project of Belgian sound artist Niels Geybels. I first became aware of Niels work through his project False Moniker and the split tapes with Cremation Lily that were put out by Strange Rules. Niels also operates the Audio, Visuals, Atmospheres label who have released great tapes from Thorsten Soltau, Modelbau and Anji Cheung amongst loads of others. Worth a peruse. https://audiovisualsatmosphere.bigcartel.com "Kneaded Black" comes from last years release on the American 'Park 70' label called "Gathering Colours". Park 70 is developing in to an interesting label too.
The Nurse With Wound track is from the recent Come Organisation ten album and 10" EP compilation on Vinyl On Demand. Originally on the 1981 compilation album "The Second Coming" this is what William Bennett says about the piece in the accompanying book.
"As you can see by the liner notes, the Nurse With Wound track has a title made up of a series of random hieroglyphics. In fact, this surreal piece of music was commonly known as "The Registered Nurse" - the track partly inspired by French mystique concrét composer Luc Ferrari. I don't recall exactly how Jim Thirwell contributed to the piece but he worked with Steven on a number of sessions at IPS Studios around that time, not to mention his own Foetus material".
Norn is the solo project of Trepaneringsritualen member Peter Nijland. "Mobula" is from a single sided Duplicord pressing 7". I have no idea what that means ... I suppose it's like a lathe cut disc?
The Coil track is my acknowledgement to the celebration the following day of St Valentine. It comes from the recent re-issue of the 'Stolen And Contaminated Songs" CD on Cold Spring Records.
Sad news to hear of the passing of Andy Gill earlier this month. Back in the late 1970's and turn of the 80's I was a big 'fan' of Gang Of Four. I saw them live a few times during this period, even up to the "Hard" LP. Very influential to the sound I was trying to create around that time...."Paralysed" is from the "Solid Gold" album.
Three songs feature in the "On This Day" file. Bill Nelson's "Rooms With Brittle Views", Bauhaus and "Kick In The Eye" and from 1978 the excellent "Oh! Didn't I Say" by Tubeway Army.
