MuhMur Radio Broadcast 18 August 2024.

 

Busy time at Harttop Towers .. MuhMur Radio HQ. Summer holidays for the kids .. it'll soon be over. Gorgeous weather, beach trips & walks on Dartmoor etc. Blog time is (I'm afraid) at a minimum. Normal service will be resumed in September. 

A lot of the playlist is compiled of new arrivals over the past 4/5 weeks along with some old favourites. In August I always slip in 'The Presence' or 'Concorde Square' by Crispy Ambulance as they are from the 12" "Live On A Hot August Night" .. this August it's 'The Presence'. 

Contrastive piece is from the recent album "Life Without Agriculture" on Drone Records. The Current 93 track 'The Astral Crimes Of Stephen Hawke' is side 2 of the album of the same name. The title is taken (I imagine) from the 1930's 'Horror' film starring Tod Slaughter .. but I could be wrong. 'The Long Shadow Falls' is from CD#7 of the 7 CD boxset of the same name. Modelbau's 'Myths Of The Near Future' is from a limited cassette released by Econore. The piece is based on a short story by JG Ballard. Mark Vernon track is from his latest vinyl outing on Futura Resistenza called "The Dramaturgy Of Decay". Copies still available from Mark at : https://markvernon.bandcamp.com. 

Heikke of Grey Park has been busy of late, self releasing the latest Grey Park album "Tiny Ships On Asphalt" and putting out the latest Archives Assistant CD on his Hyster Tapes imprint. Earlier in the summer Jim Haynes was in the UK to play a couple of gigs in London and Middlesborough. He visited Cornwall & Devon (UK's equivalent of the Deep South) .. and dropped off a couple of releases for MuhMur HQ. (via Alice Kemp ... I never got to meet Jim .. but next time, next time). 'Variant, Number Seventeen' is from the cassette album "Inadvertent" on No Rent Records and '3' is from the CD album "Inconsequential" on White Centipede Noise. https://whitecentipedenoise.com. WCN have just reissued the Treriksröset album "Sexregler". A MuhMur Radio recommendation. On the last broadcast I played some Emil Beaulieau in recognition of the new book "America's Greatest Noise" about Ron Lessard and RRRecords by Frans de Waard. A 7' flexi-disc accompanied some copies with an anti-conversation between Ron and Frans edited by Howard Stelzer. This ends part one of the broadcast ... Sticking with Frans part two begins with two pieces from his collaboration with Sindre Bjerga and Fabio Orsi. It's a three piece CD entitled "Counting Backwards From ∞" on Attenuation Circuit. Soloman Tump is Andrew Fletcher and a fellow broadcaster on SoundArt Radio, he also produces the Intrinsic Action fanzine and has just appeared at Supernormal Festival. Recently I have been cataloguing my complete audio collection. Get it down for one last time and see if it makes any sense. It is (naturally) great fun to do, going through boxes and discovering things that I haven't played in years and in some cases totally forgot I had! It will take time ... one of the 'rediscovered' sounds is the split tape of Ilia Belorukov and Jelena Glazova on the Hyster Tapes label. (see above for link etc) .. If ever a piece fitted the SoundArt title ... 

The broadcast ends with The Cigarettes. I was compiling the broadcast at the start of August when the UK went crazy for a few days, seriously batshit crazy. 'They're Back Again..Here They Come' is one of the great anti-fascist songs of the 1970's ... especially by a band from Lincoln.
